Working from home with kids: survival tips

January 13, 2020 by Contributed Post Filed Under: Living Life Leave a Comment

Parents understand, when having a new baby, that life isn’t going to be the same, and there are some things they need to adjust to. A baby needs plenty of attention and care. Thoughts like: the diaper should be changed, bottles should be sterilized, the child should be put to sleep, and other similar ones go through your head systematically. But what about your inner peace and self-improvement? Of course, you have less time to think about your own self, but still, you need to find the opportunity to do so. You possibly find it impossible working from home with kids. We’ve prepared some survival tips that will help you to manage your time and stay productive.

Create your workspace.

If you’re trying to grab your laptop and work at the same time as your kids are playing around, this may not work. Usually, you’ll get distracted by questions, noises, or arguing. So you need to find your own place to stay concentrated and focused. It’s great to have someone who can take care of the kids and let you work. But if not, you can use the time when children nap or play and use a baby camera to control the situation. Moreover, it’s very important to fill the space with things that produce a work vibe. That can be an office desk, working notebooks, a timer for concentration, or anything you want. But remember, it’s still better to keep this place clean and minimalistic and eliminate some things that may distract you.

Manage your working schedule.

It is very important to plan everything you need to do in advance. Children are unpredictable, and your plans may change, but you need to be self-organized. Schedule your phone calls, meetings, or demanding work when you know that it will be calm and quiet, for example, when kids are asleep or when your partner can look after them.

Prepare for kids’ requests in advance.

Think about things that kids may ask you in advance. That includes their eating desires, toys, gadgets, and so on. Let’s take eating, for example. It can be possible that your kids may get hungry during the time when you’ll be absent and stay in your home office. It’s good to prepare baby formula if you have a little baby to make it possible for someone else to feed one. You can also have some ready-made liquid baby formula in the fridge. Or cook some healthy cookies with dried fruits and cereals that children can grab and have a snack. So think about every possible situation ahead, and your little ones won’t distract you.

Ask for a help

Mothers already do a demanding job – they are mothers. So, it’s necessary to ask your partner or other close people to spend some time with kids and entertain them. Don’t forget about your own existence and well-being. Your loved people are surely ready to give you a hand and make it possible for you to work. Don’t be shy to ask about that.
