Paleo Diet
My husband and I have begun a new journey. We started the Paleo Diet this week. Have you heard of it? There are several different forms of the Paleo Diet. We’re doing classic Paleo. The basic premise of this diet is is based upon everyday, modern foods that mimic the food groups of our pre-agricultural, hunter-gatherer ancestors.
So what does that mean? Basically your diet will now consist of:
- High Protein
- Fresh Fruits and Veggies
- Eggs
- Nuts and Seeds
- Healthy Oils such as coconut oil, flaxseed, olive, etc.
You will cut out of your diet:
- Starches
- Sugar
- Legumes
- Dairy
- Salt
- Refined Oils
Coming from a family who LOVES carbs, this can be a tough transition. However, there are wonderful flours that you can use in your recipes vs. the wheat flour. Like coconut flour and almond flour. I’ve found these 2 very helpful in getting through. We’re just in our first week so I know that it will get easier. It’s just a matter of finding great recipes that we can enjoy. Eventually our cravings for sugar and carbs will subside.
Paleo Salad
I made myself this delicious Paleo Salad the other day. You can put a variety of things in it to make it however you like. It was yummy. Here’s what I put in my Paleo Salad:
- Fresh lettuce mix
- Sliced Apples
- Dried Cranberries
- Chicken Breast
- Sunflower Seeds
- Raspberries
Then I used a no carb, no fat, no sugar dressing. The Walden’s salad dressings are great.
This Paleo Salad is easy to put together and very yummy. Doesn’t make me feel like I’m missing out on anything. Full of flavor and fully customizable.
I’m going to try to prepare these ahead by putting them in qt size jars. My husband has been preparing a salad for his lunch each morning. I think it would be great to have several jars made ahead of time so that all he had to do was grab and go.
What are some salad toppings that you like to have on your salad?

This looks so good! I’ve been eating the primal way more and have a big salad full of veggies and a bit of meat almost every day.
