I’ve always encouraged my kids to do what they love, what they’re passionate about. That’s one of the reasons that I love homeschooling actually. Because it allows us to tailor their learning about what they love. Yes, they still get all of the required learning but we can also give them extra in what they love the most.
My oldest son is a gamer. He loves all kinds of video games and is good at them. He’s very much into technology and knows that one day he’s going to be a programmer or game developer. So that’s what I encourage him to do. We’ve added classes to his regular school work to help him start learning programming so that he’s on the path he wants.
My other son LOVES baseball. That is something that he and I can do together. I love watching him play as much as he loves playing. Will he be a professional baseball player some day? Who knows but I’m going to encourage him to live his dreams and do what he is most passionate about.
My oldest daughter is so creative. She loves to draw, craft, create. She’s so talented and I love that this is her passion. I’m not at all artistic so I make sure that we supplement her schooling with plenty of art classes. That’s what she loves so I will continue to support and encourage her every step of the way.
Now as for my youngest daughter, I think she’s still keeping her options open. And that’s ok. I will be there for her no matter what path she chooses.
I love the above video My All-Star Daughter. It reasonates with me and makes me think about my children’s dreams and aspirations.
