Carlos Alazraqui El Chupacabra Q&A

August 12, 2013 by Dawn Filed Under: Disney, Entertainment 2 Comments

Q&A with Carlos Alazraqui voice of El Chupacabra

Have you gotten out and seen Disney’s Planes yet? If so, what did you think? Did you love it as much as I did? Which was your favorite character?

One of my favorites is El Chupacabra. Partly because he’s such a great character in the movie and partly because I got to meet Carlos Alazraqui the actor who voices El Chup.

El Chupacabra

It was such a pleasure to be able to sit down with Carlos and talk to him about his experience voicing this part. Carlos is just so great. While in the interview, he’d just pull out a new character and speak in that voice. I loved it. It’s always so cool to me to see the actor and match the voice to the animated character.

Here’s some of the highlights that I took away from the Q & A with Carlos Alazraque who played El Chupacabra:

Carlos was asked which was his favorite character that he’s done voice work for. He said that his two favorites were Rocko (Rocko’s Modern Life) and El Chupacabra. And of course he treated us by actually doing the voice of Rocko and El Chup. It was so fun to listen to.

When asked what was one of his favorite lines was he answered, “That’s my lunch, don’t touch that.” So when you see Disney’s Planes, make sure to listen for that line. 😉

Until seeing the process behind what goes into making an animated movie, I just never understood. It’s so amazing. Carlos said that he spent 2 years and probably 20 sessions recording the voice of El Chupacabra. And to think that all of those sessions, he was recording by himself. Meaning, the actors didn’t get together and record at the same time. They all recorded individually and then their parts were all put together.

Carlos did say that live action was easier to do and that working with the other actors is great because you can feed off of each other. In an animated movie where you’re doing the voice recording, most of the time, they do not get to do that.

I can definitely see how hard that would be. Well I did get to experience it a little. Did you catch my voice over work with Dottie? That was a lot of fun but not easy at all.

Don’t forget to read back on all of my Disney adventures!

while I haven’t seen the movie yet, it sounds like you had a great interview with him and I will be sure to listen for his favorite line in the movie!

We can’t wait to see this movie. We just haven’t had time to get to the theater. I love Disney movies!
