If you’re living a low carb or Keto lifestyle, then you’ve probably either heard of or experienced the Keto Flu. I’ve got a great, homemade electrolyte drink to help you avoid it!
Over the past year or so, I’ve tried going all in on the Keto lifestyle. It’s not easy cutting out carbs and sugar but what always made it so difficult for me was the dreaded keto flu.
A day or two into starting Keto, I’d get really bad dizzy spells, feel weak and tired, and overall just not able to function. It was terrible. The main ‘cure’ for the Keto flu is to make sure you’re hydrating and replenishing your body with the electrolytes that it’s missing.
And easy way to do this is with sugar free sports drinks like Powerade or Gatorade. I tried both and neither were enough for me. At the time, I just gave up on Keto thinking it just was not going to be an option for me.
Then I discovered a way to avoid the Keto flu with this homemade electrolyte drink. I started drinking it before I went full Keto. Then once I cut out carbs and sugar, I didn’t experience any Keto flu symptoms. I will sometimes still notice a slight dizziness when I stand up, but that tells me that I haven’t drank enough of my homemade electrolyte drink for the day yet.
Avoid the Keto Flu with this Homemade Electrolyte Drink
It’s super easy to make. I use a 32 oz water bottle. Fill with water and add:
2 Tblsp of Natural Vitality Calm (I got my big tub at Sam’s Club)
1/2 tsp Lite Salt
1/4 tsp Fine Himalayan Pink Salt
1/2 fresh squeezed lemon (I use 1 drop of lemon essential oil)
Optional: sweetener of choice (I use Mio Water Enhancer)
Shake and drink right away or store in the refrigerator.
I make up one 32 oz water bottle of this drink every morning. Then throughout the day, I just refill my tumbler.
I not only stay hydrated but I’m replacing all of those important electrolytes too. Voila! I’m avoiding the Keto flu.
