Whether you’ve just arrived and visiting Charleston, South Carolina, or are in the process of packing your suitcase ahead of your trip, you’re in luck.

Often considered one of the #1 cities to visit within the US, you are surrounded by a wealth of excitement and culture no matter which road you walk down!

However, with so many different attractions and activities to choose from, it can be exceedingly difficult to put together your itinerary – which is where this guide comes in!

With that in mind, here’s a list of everything you must see or do when in Charleston!

Tuck into some Shrimp and Grits. Charleston’s coastal location means that it’s the perfect tourist destination for seafood lovers. However, while you’ll have a wealth of options to choose from when dining out, you simply must try Shrimp and Grits during your time in the city. This is because the dish is said to originate from this very location!

Visit the local museum. Want to find out more about the city that you are visiting? Journey back in time with a visit to Charleston Museum, home to a wide range of exhibits, including an armory, national history gallery, and a hands-on exhibit for children entitled “Kidstory.” Entry to the museum starts at just $6 for children, but there’s plenty to do or so that makes it worth this!

Catch some sun at the local beaches. One of the major selling points of Charleston is that you get to enjoy the best of both worlds during your time in the city. That is, you can enjoy the vibrant city life and all that this encompasses while also remaining just a stone’s throw away from the beach! As such, you should be sure to visit one of the many local beaches during your trip, whether you’re looking to relax to the sound of the crashing ocean waves or want to dive into some activities. Be sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen!

Join a walking tour. A walking tour is another great way to find out more about Charleston’s rich history and culture – and it means you’re getting your daily exercise in, too! As tours are led by local experts, you will also be given the opportunity to ask them for recommendations on other things to do or places to eat and drink. As such, this could be a great way to discover local hotspots that many other tourists do not know about! Listen to live music. No matter what genre of music your favorite is, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are plenty of opportunities to tune in during your trip to Charleston, South Carolina. For example, locations such as the Charleston Pour House and Music Farm regularly invite touring bands and musicians on stage to play. Who knows, this could mean that you discover your new favorite artist on the trip. Alternatively, if they are hosting an open mic night, you could get up and perform yourself, making memories that will last a lifetime.
