Total Money Makeover with Dave Ramsey
I’ve already written a couple of posts on teaching our kids about money. My husband and I are turning 40 this year and it’s high time we turned our finances around…not only for us but for our kids. So we’re starting over learning how to handle our money and teaching our kids how to handle their money as well. They need good examples to follow.
All through our married lives, we’ve robbed Peter to pay Paul and lived pay check to pay check. I’ve lost many a nights sleep stressing over money. That’s just not a place that I want to continue to live nor something that I want my kids to go through either.
Yes, we are a one income family so you could be saying right now, well go out and get a job. Pay off your debt. Sure, we could do that but our circumstances are a bit different. We’ve chosen to always have one parent be at home with our children. That was important to us. We want to be the ones raising them no matter what. Our youngest daughter also has Crohn’s disease and was hospitalized a lot when she was first diagnosed. It made it hard for both of us to be working. That was the point when I quit my job to be home with her and the kids.
And to be honest, even when we were making more, we always found a way to spend more. We, probably like many Americans, do not know how to manage our money. Time to change that.
Starting The Total Money Makeover
We are starting Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover. There are so many lessons to be learned..so so many! This is a life long process and we are just at the beginning. For those of you that may have gone through TMMO or have at least heard of it, it is amazing. I devoured the first book, highlighting and bookmarking different sections. I will be writing more posts as I go but I wanted to just write where we are at right now.
I’m excited to share with you soon how we completed the first step and started a savings and then started our debt snowball!! Stay tuned!

That is a wonderful idea. We live the same way and sometimes we don not have enough money to stretch to pay what we need and we both work.I do not have car payments, boat payments, or atv paymentss.I do have insurance, lights, and rent and other bills and those bills take everything we have to survive.I can not wait to see how well this works for you.

Good luck on your journey! this is so awesome.
I started my TMMO journey in July 2007 and finished BS#2 in December 2012. It has been a challenge, but well worth it.
