Teaching Teens About Money
I’ve started a series of lessons with all of my kids teaching them about money. How to manage their money now so that they can start their adult lives debt free.
I’m really excited to be going through the Teen series, Generation Change from Dave Ramsey, with my oldest son Dylan who is 13. He’s in 8th grade this year.
Here’s a snippet about Generation Change and how its Teaching Teens About Money:
Generation Change is an all-new suite of Bible studies designed to lead teens to a better understanding of God, themselves and their money—and how it all works together. In the three different teaching series, students are equipped with biblical principles to BE who God created them to be, DO more with their money, and GO out into the world ready to write their story. Lesson videos with Dave Ramsey and his daughter, Rachel Cruze, along with engaging hands-on activities, will bring new biblical and financial truths to this generation, making them a generation of change.
Dylan and I went through Lesson 1 of Be Who God Created yesterday. It was amazing. I loved how Dylan took to it right away. He was a little hesitant to start the lesson because, “I already know about money, Mom.” But then when the first lesson was done, he said he was really glad that he went through it and realized how different his perception of money was. Especially this part:
The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
-1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV)
A lot of people, think of this verse and drop the “love” and think that it means money is the root of evil. But it’s not. It’s the LOVE of money that is the root of all kinds of evil. Dylan had said that he always thought that God didn’t like money but now realizes that God wants you to have money and He wants you to do good things with it. What a great lesson for him to learn.
I just love this series and am excited to be going through it with him. I love that they are incorporating who God wants our children to be and teaching them about money at the same time. If you have a teen, I encourage you to check it out. You will be so glad you did!

It is amazing how many people think that money or things will make them happy. They often end up disappointed!
