Easiest Way To Preserve Avocados – Freeze Them! Great For Keto Diet!

February 7, 2024 by Dawn Filed Under: Best Of, Cooking 1 Comment

I am not an avocado expert. I always struggle to get them to the perfect ripeness. I love this option as a way to preserve avocados.

The Keto way of eating has really become popular. One of the biggest challenges on the Keto diet is getting in enough healthy fats. One great way to increase your fat intake is with avocados.

I love to shop at Sam’s club and buy in bulk. This is great for having Keto diet staples always on hand but not always best for those perishable items. Like avocados, for example.

I am not an avocado expert. I always struggle to get them to the perfect ripeness. So usually by the time I go to eat them, they looked like they’ve expired. Which is such a waste of money.

I love this option as a way to preserve avocados. You just freeze them!

The process is really easy. First, cut all avocados in half and remove the pit. Then place in individual plastic baggies. You can freeze them all together in one large plastic freezer bag but I thought freezing them individually would be easier to remove one at a time.

Once you have all of your avocados bagged, use a straw to suck out all of the air and close the baggie.

Now with each of the avocados individually sealed up, you can put all of them inside a larger freezer bag and store in your freezer.

When you’re ready to enjoy, remove from the freezer and thaw in your refrigerator over night. For quicker thawing, you can place in cool water until ready.

When you preserve avocados this way, the texture is a bit different than using fresh. However, avocados that have been frozen are great for making guac, adding to smoothies, making keto avocado pudding, etc.

What are your favorite avocado recipes? I, of course, love guac but I’ve also enjoyed adding avocados to my scrambled eggs for breakfast. Avocados are also really good in smoothie recipes or spread on toast for those non-keto dieters. I have also been wanting to try an avocado mayo. Sounds delicious!

I’ll be posting more Keto recipes so make sure to check out my cooking category.

Do you have other ways that you preserve avocados? Let me know in the comments.

I enjoy eating avocados a few times a week, usually in my salad or sliced on my spaghetti and meatballs. I love the idea you have here , using the straw.
