Have you finally got the family together for a night but don’t know what to do? With fall upon us, now is the perfect time to plan a cozy night with the whole family.
A cozy night in is the perfect way to enjoy good food, good company, and a range of fun activities.
If you are planning a cozy night in, here are 4 tips to help you get started and create a night the whole family will love.
#1 Communicate it
Make sure you communicate to everyone involved the date, time, and place of the event, especially if you are inviting family over who don’t live with you. This will ensure everyone has it in their diaries so no one is left out, and they know how to prepare. You will also need to let people know if they need to bring anything specific, such as snacks, drinks, blankets, or pajamas. If this is a big event, you could even send out invitations, written or by email if you want to be extra!
#2 Create a food menu
If you are serious about your cozy night in, then a food menu is important. By planning a menu, you can ensure you have the best food, and that there is enough to go around. There’s nothing worse than not being organized, and people have to miss out on the delicious treats you had planned! This homemade chicken gravy recipe is easy and simple to make, combined with roasted vegetables, and to finish off, popcorn, toasted marshmallows, and hot chocolate drinks.
#3 Plan the activities
There is of course joy in doing the things you usually do as a family, so add a few of those to the list, but why not plan some brand new activities that you can all try together? It can often be hard to get the whole family together, especially as the kids grow older, so to make it a night to remember, here are some new things you can try:
- Set up an outdoor cinema with blankets and a projector
- Build a fort in your front room with pillows and blankets
- Put up a tent in the backyard
- Go through photos and make a scrapbook together
- Make up some games, or play something new, for example, Pie Face or Banana Swings
- Host a family talent show
Think outside the box and see what you can come up with. Keep it a surprise, just be sure to tell your family what they need to bring on the night!
#4 Create the setup
Whether you are hosting a few people or lots of people, it is important to set up the location. Typically, this would be in the front room or the backyard, so move anything unnecessary out the way, to make it easier for people to move around (and of course, play the fun games you have planned)! Set up enough seats, a table for food and drinks, and perhaps even some fairy lights to create a cozier atmosphere.
When planning your next cozy night with the family, get creative and see how you can make it a night to remember.
