Moving is a big deal; it’s life-changing in some ways. There is a lot to be said for giving yourself and your family a fresh start even if it’s just down the road. A new house can be a blank canvas, somewhere that you can impress your creativity upon. And in general, that is a lot of fun. More so if you have been blessed with a pretty blank canvas to start with. So here are a few Moving Tips to make it a adventure for you and your family.
Moving Tips to Make it a Great Adventure
Fresh Start
Sometimes it is a fresh start because you need one. Break down in relationships or friendships, grief, loss of jobs… all seem pretty negative, and they have a considerable mental and emotional impact. Throw moving into that, and it can feel like the most substantial burden in the world. But actually, it is a beautiful fresh start. If you’re moving to an area where no one knows you, you have a clean slate – and who doesn’t love a chance to reinvent themselves.
Exploring
Even if you are about as inner-city as a person or family can be, there is going to be so much for you to do. That is the excellent thing, pretty much no matter where you move to there is going to be something to look at, and things to do. If you have a lot of say over where you move, rather than a location of circumstances, then you can opt for somewhere cultural – or you can opt for as green as you can get. Although it is likely that the closer to those things, you are, the higher the rent or buying price is going to be.
Wish List
If you have been living in an apartment until now, or even a big house but have been dreaming of being able to see a sunset or some water from your window, then this is the time that you can indulge those fantasies. Of course, it might not all be possible, but if you even get one thing of you ‘wish list’ then you are going to be so much happier with your new home just because of that.
Bye Bye
Ah, the utter joy of saying goodbye on a large scale to the junk that is taking up space. We all have so much stuff we don’t need, use or love. This is your opportunity to donate it, gift it or sell it before you move to your new place. People love to furnish spaces so that they feel cosy and like home. Not too dissimilar from magpies, one might say.
So spend some time walking around with some post-it notes, or a list and write down what you do and don’t want. Try to make sure that you aren’t keeping things just for the sake of it. If you haven’t worn it in a year, will you wear in the following year? Probably not. So ditch it.
Cleaning
Okay so not everyone will care about this point- but – when you move into a new house, it is usually easier to keep on top of. And when you are leaving the place you are currently in, you are probably going to be looking up cleaning hacks left right and center to make sure that you either get top price or your deposit back. Those can be employed in the new place. Not only that, but it makes it a great time to set up a cleaning rotation with other people who share your house. Even little kids can get in on the action.
Packing
This one can feel emotional, but also wonderful. Once you have spent the time to find out more about moving companies or van rentals. And you know which one is going to benefit you the most. Putting what you have left in boxes ready to move your life from one place to another is a big deal. After you have packed the last box, cleaned and closed that door, you are saying goodbye to a chapter in your life and getting ready for the next one. It could be worth looking into a storage unit like Radical Storage to put your belongings if there’s a delay in the actual move.
People
As mentioned above, you might be moving because you haven’t had the most fabulous time lately, but moving to a new space will give you the opportunity to meet new people. And who knows how your life will change over the next few months now you have these people in your life.
