Are you excited to see Disney Planes? I can’t wait to take my kids to see it in the theater! Have you been following along with my posts about the #DisneyPlanesEvent?
Next up is Q&A with Teri Hatcher aka Dottie
Unfortunately, Teri was very ill when we were supposed to meet with her. So she instead offered to have a conference call with us all so we could still talk with her.
When I think of Teri Hatcher, I see a big movie star that has played some great roles. After talking with her, it’s apparent that she’s just a mom like the rest of us. I love that about her. Here’s one of my favorite question/answers of Teri describing her role as a mom and how she balances:
I’m not saying that my life is so hard. I feel really blessed; I’ve been super fortunate … I’m not necessarily struggling with finances every single day. I don’t have that burden which most people do and, you know, I have so much empathy for that.
I’m also not working every single day right now. I am developing stuff. Um, but I do still get up at six in the morning and drive my kid- like, in Los Angeles, for me, round trip in the morning is about an hour and a half worth of driving before eight o’clock in the morning. And, you know, you’re taking them to all their events and trying to still work and keep up an image that Hollywood’s interested in. I mean, it’s a lot but I think the bottom line is ev- everybody’s life feels like a lot to deal with.
And so at the end of the day, you’ve just gotta find the joy in it because it, you know, you don’t want your life to feel like you- it’s something you have to do. You wanna try to find a way to frame things to feel like they’re something that you want to do. And even if it’s driving an hour and a half in the morning to school, you know, I do tricks- like, I’ll listen to a book on tape or I’ll make it, make it time that is just for me so that it feels like, oh my God, I’m not just a chauffeur, you know?
Another of my favorite question/answer is when someone in the group asked what her favorite part of Planes is:
I guess my favorite part … it’s hard to say because, clearly, the movie is so gorgeous. It’s just so beautiful and every time I look at scenes from it I just can’t get over the craftsmanship of how they create this world that just draws you in- like, it’s planes. They’re not people, but suddenly you kind of let all that go and you just are in this story, and it’s so beautiful and so magical.
… so I love everything in it, but I think my favorite scene for my character and what just makes me laugh all the time because it makes me laugh- the final cut of it, and it makes me laugh remembering the journey of filming it. It was the scene where Dottie is first telling him that he can’t fly, and then she just sort of does this demonstration of what’s gonna happen to him if he doesn’t fly … he’s gonna go to the ground and smash all the kids in the orphanage.
And, you know, I, it just, it makes me laugh and when I watch it with a group of people, everybody laughs, and so I guess that’s one of my favorites.
It was so great to be able to speak with her. I wish we could have met her in person but what a trooper for even chatting on the phone with us.
Stay tuned for more from the #DisneyPlanesEvent, coming soon!
