How To Work On Yourself When Your Schedule Is So Busy

We all know that in various ways, we could better who we are and improve our character. However, it’s not easy to work on yourself. After all, it’s nice to pay lip service to, but the actual time you spend or the effort you put in will need to be formatted in practical terms.

So for example, if you want to be more patient or learn to be more forgiving, do you pencil in that approach for 9am on a Tuesday? Do you read a post on patience? Or is it more of a lived decision? But what if you need to address that lived decision head on, and you’ve been used to the habit of not doing so? Do you build good habits on a set date?

As you can see, it’s so easy to overthink and then make no progress at all. That’s before we consider just how to do so when our schedule is so busy to begin with. In this post, however, we aim to help you achieve that vital goal, and benefit as a result:

Focus On One Measure You Can

Pick something specific that you can work on, don’t try and become a completely different person all at once. Maybe you want to stop interrupting people during conversations, or you could practice saying thank you more often, or you might work on listening while suspending the effort to offer advice, it all counts and the marginal steps will respond more easily.

The idea is to choose one behavior that you can notice and adjust throughout your day. It also feels good to win in the little moments, which makes you more likely to continue.

Look To Resolve One Situation Responsibly

Think about a specific relationship or situation where you know you could handle things better, and put your energy into improving that one area. In your case it could be that there’s a family member you’ve been short with, or a coworker you’ve been avoiding, or an old friend you owe an apology to.

Working on one real situation gives you a chance to practice your character improvements and it’s also a step you can find mutual time for, which can put to bed something that’s been bothering you, perhaps even in the abstract.

Consider Professional Centers For Healing

The truth is that the things you want to change about yourself run deeper than what you can fix through willpower alone, so talking to someone trained in helping people work through these issues can give you something of a distinct “zone” to sort them outside your daily life, and some may be available on weekends. So therapists, counselors, and support groups understand how to help you to see into yourself and change, especially those you might not see on your own, and give you practical tools for it. That’s especially true with professional services such as the Delray Center for Healing.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily work on yourself despite the busy schedule you’ve been contending with and enjoy that all the same. Just remember you don’t have to achieve all this in a month.
