How To Save Money Traveling With Your Children

May 21, 2025 by Dawn Filed Under: Travel Leave a Comment

Travel and vacationing is a wonderful pastime, and for children especially it can be a formative experience. But as a family, especially in a somewhat tight economy and with prices seemingly higher than they’ve ever been, you have to be ready for the expense. Of course, if there’s anything worth burning a hole in your wallet for, making vital and vibrant memories with your family is absolutely one of them.

That doesn’t mean you can’t save your hard-earned cash with some helpful and careful planning. If you have younger children especially, there are some worthwhile ventures you can focus on, and also some caveats to keep in place also.

In this post, we hope to lay a few of those out, and hopefully help you travel without worrying too much about a flushing budget or unexpected hidden fees and charges. Without further ado, please consider:

Pack & Protect Your Belongings

Smart packing saves you from those emergency purchases at triple the normal price while on vacation. Kids have an amazing talent for breaking, losing, or suddenly needing items you’d never expect, so making a simple checklist for each family member helps avoid those moments when you realize someone’s medication or comfort item was left behind.

Remember to plan in advance too, as your prescription sunglasses online order should arrive well before your trip, along with a protective case. Having a backup pair might sound excessive, but replacing specialized eyewear while traveling can become ridiculously expensive and time-consuming. If you manage measures like this, you’ll save yourself a huge amount of time.

Go For Child-Friendly Deals & Promotions

Family-focused destinations will usually offer packages and promotions specifically designed for parents traveling with children. These deals sometimes include free meals for kids, free activities, or large discounts on attractions. The savings add up substantially over a week-long vacation when you multiply them across multiple children. Timing your booking can dramatically affect pricing in line with that, as many resorts and attractions announce their family promotions several months in advance.

Consider Traveling During Long Weekends More Frequently

Many shorter trips throughout the year could create more lasting memories than one big expensive vacation and they generally work out cheaper too. Long weekends let you explore destinations closer to home without the pressure of cramming everything into one annual trip and with bank holidays you don’t need to ask for approval, although schools can let parents take their kids out for a day or two if a vacation runs on, especially if it’s important, but not often and not every year.

Going on these little expeditions can be cheaper too, because transportation costs will obviously decrease for shorter journeys. Driving a few hours versus flying internationally can also give you more time with your loved ones and you may leave near some really worthwhile places to see.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily save money traveling with your children in the best way.
