Tomorrow marks my 1 week post op after Gastric Sleeve Bariatric Surgery. It has not been the easiest week but very much expected after any surgery.
The biggest issues I’m dealing with are:
1. Mild pain and discomfort at the incision sites. Even Laparoscopic, it’s still surgery, there’s still swelling, etc. It’s been important to just take it easy, hold my stomach when I’m coughing, moving from laying to sitting, sitting to standing. I have been taking my pain pills. Figuring, my body needs time to heal so I should help it any way I can. Today, so far, I haven’t needed them. We’ll see how the day progresses.
2. Eating. Or I should say drinking. The first week or so I’ll still be on a liquid diet. The liquids are not going down all that well. I’m getting them down but it feels like I’m also swallowing an air bubble with it. They did put air in my stomach for the surgery so I know that all needs to get out some how. Plus, my stomach is swollen and needs to get used to food again. In the meantime, I’m getting used to making sure I have enough protein and am eating, drinking on a schedule.
It’s helped a lot to have my Medifast shakes. I know that I’m getting good protein, vitamins and minerals and it’s easy to prepare.
My body was holding in some extra fluid which is now finally going down. So overall I’m feeling a lot better but am still taking it slow. I still get pretty tired just doing normal things so I’m listening to my body and resting when I need to.
So on to the weight loss!!
Since I started the liquid diet on Nov. 8th, I am down 16 lbs! 7 lbs of that is just since the surgery.
Here’s my Week 1 post op pic…in hindsight, I maybe should have put on some make up. 😉 But I’m still taking it easy, not going anywhere so clean face it is.
By next week, I expect to be feeling a lot better, maybe moving onto soft foods. I’m going to be sure to bring my Medifast drinks with me for Thanksgiving. No turkey for me this year.
