Are you ready for Back to School? Need a time saver tip? I’m going to let you in on my time saver tip that has to do with Pick ‘n Save + my crock pot… keep reading!
I do not want summer to end. I am just not ready to go back to school. Are you? But I know that the days are getting shorter and cooler and BTS is going to be here before we know it. Actually, I know some schools that have already started! I’m thankful I get a few more weeks ‘off.’
As homeschoolers, I might not do the typical BTS shopping. We don’t head out and buy new school clothes or hit the retailers for notebooks, etc. However, I do have to grab some new curriculum each year and a few supplies.
One thing we all have in common is figuring out how to fit it all in and how to juggle everything that we have going on. BTS time, for most, can be a bit more hectic. No matter if you work outside the home or in, life is busy. You’re shuttling kids to and from school, to and from sporting events, extracurriculars, dentist, etc. etc. We’re busy.
Then at the end of the day, the last thing you want to think about is dinner. Like clockwork we might inevitably get the “WHAT’S FOR DINNER?” question.
Drives me crazy! Well with a little pre-planning, you won’t have to worry about dinner any longer. Here’s my Back to School Time Saver idea to help you juggle everything AND get dinner on the table.
Pick ‘n Save + My Crock Pot = WIN!
Pick ‘n Save is an awesome Wisconsin Grocery store. Together with Pick ‘n Save and my Crock Pot, I can have a freezer full of meals ready to grace my dinner table. All you need is a little pre-planning and an hour or two of prep time and you can stock your freezer for at least a couple of weeks. Depending on how much you have for left overs, your meals might even last all month.
Freezer cooking is super easy but if you want to make a meal fresh, from fridge to crock pot or grocer to crock pot, that’s fine too. Here’s a new recipe that I just tried. It’s so simple and super easy. I made this one from grocer to crock pot but next time I’ll make several up as freezer meals.
BBQ Slow Cooker Chicken
Ingredients
- 3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 bottle BBQ sauce
- 1/2 Cup brown sugar
- 1 jar pineapple optional
Instructions
-
Place chicken in bottom of slow cooker. Combine BBQ sauce and brown sugar in a separate bowl. Pour over chicken. Drain pineapple. Add pineapple chunks to the slow cooker. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8.
Now if you want to make this as a freezer meal, you just follow the directions on the recipe but add it all to a freezer bag. Lay flat, remove as much air as you can from the bag and place in freezer. I usually print out the recipe and keep it close to the freezer so I can refer to it as necessary. Label your freezer bag and you’ll know which recipe to grab.
When you’re ready to have it for dinner, take it out of the freezer, thaw slightly and pop in your slow cooker. Easy! You can serve with rice, shred and eat as a sandwich, have a BBQ chicken salad, etc. My husband ate the chicken with a side salad, my kids had it shredded on a bun and I had a BBQ chicken salad. It was delicious.
Here’s an extra tip… buy ingredients x 2 or x 3 of everything and make several freezer bags of this 1 recipe.

I wouldn’t survive without my crockpot. I haven’t been using it nearly enough lately. I need to put a stop to that. Because seriously, it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
