Paleo Chocolate Cake in a Mug Recipe

January 20, 2015 by Dawn Filed Under: Paleo 19 Comments

When you switch to a Paleo lifestyle, chocolate is not necessarily on the list of Paleo approved foods and neither is cake. BUT.. with a few substitutions we can still satisfy our chocolate craving with something like this Paleo Chocolate Cake in a Mug Recipe.

I am a chocoholic!! I love my chocolate. Of course when you’re trying to eat more healthy or when you switch to a Paleo lifestyle, chocolate is not necessarily on the list of Paleo approved foods and neither is cake. BUT.. with a few substitutions we can still satisfy our chocolate craving. For example, let’s take a look at this deliciousย Paleo Chocolate Cake in a Mug Recipe.

This is one of my favorites because it’s quick, easy and delicious! When I get a chocolate craving, I can whip this up quickly without having to bake an entire cake. Two minutes and I am eating this yummy dessert. Well maybe 5 minutes with adding all of the ingredients. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Grab some coconut milk ice cream and you’ve got an awesome dessert without all of the guilt and stomach issues that the regular versions may cause.

So here we go… you’re just steps from trying out this delicious Paleo Chocolate Cake in a Mug.

Paleo Chocolate Cake in a Mug Recipe

Ingredients

1/4 Cup Blanched Almond flour
5 Tablespoons coconut sugar OR 3T honey
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 Tablespoons Cacao Powder
1 egg
3 Tablespoons almond milk
3T Coconut oil
Dash of vanilla and salt

Directions

Mix all ingredients in a microwavable safe mug.
Microwave for 2 minutes.

(carefully remove from microwave.. hot hot hot).

After it’s out of the microwave, I also sprinkle a few cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips on the top. They melt from the very warm cake and is just a yummy addition. Especially if you’re really craving chocolate! Yum!

Now let me just make one side note, if you’re just switching to Paleo or removing sugar from your diet, this is NOT going to taste like it’s full sugared counterpart. However, once you remove the sugar from your diet, your cravings and tastes will change.

Now off you go! Go make your own Paleo Chocolate Cake in a Mug. That’s where I’m heading! Enjoy!

Looks wonderful. I could eat the picture! One question though…is the sugar / honey measurement correct as posted? Seems an awful lot, given that there’s more of it than any other ingredient.

Yes, that is what I used.. but I’m sure you could adjust and try less honey.

I made it with Just Like Sugar and used 4 tablespoons and it wasn’t very sweet. I think maybe with honey it would be sweeter. I liked it the way it was it was delicious.

Help…..I made this just like the recipe and it overflowed everywhere. It also doesn’t look like yours at all. I used an extra large mug too. Any suggestions? It tasted great though btw. ๐Ÿ™‚

hmm… crazy! I’ve never had it overflow. Maybe just add less of the ingredients. Or maybe use a bowl? We, a lot of times, use a tupperware bowl vs the mug. ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you liked it!!

Can I replace the almond milk with coconut milk? Just don’t have any at home right now.

What is the difference between blanched almond flower and almond meal?

Almond meal still has the almond skin on it.

You can. I’d think the texture would just be a bit different though.

I was craving chocolate tonight so I just made this mug cake and it was so moist and delicious. After removing from the microwave I used peanut butter chips in the middle and spread flacked coconut on top. Thank you for sharing.

Every single time the recipe is followed, it turns into a delicious but messy volcano. The proper size container for this type of dessert is at least 24 oz, but also, it must be at least 5 inches in diameter/across. In addition, it must be heated at a lower power level than the default setting in the microwave in order to not overflow so quickly.
